How are Categories used in Asset Management?
This article shows how categories are created and used in asset management.
Categories are used to determine whether an asset will be Item - Based or Product - Based in the system. The category is also used to classify the types of assets. For example, a category could be equipment. This category could be used on products such as salon chairs and hair dryers used in a Cosmetology program. To create categories follow the steps listed below.
1. Click on Asset Management in the navigation menu
2. Click on Settings in the Asset Management window
3. Click on Categories
4. Click on New
Any existing Categories will appear in the list. In our example, the Categories we have already created are Equipment, Online Resources, Supplies, and Textbooks. An existing category can be edited using the action buttons next to it in the list.
5. Complete the information in the Category window
Give your category a name and select the Type from the drop - down. You will be selecting if that category will be related to Product - Based or Item - Based assets.
6. Click Add Asset Category to save.
The category will appear in the Category list.
Once Categories are set, they will be available when creating new Products in the system. For more information about creating Products in Asset Management reference the following article: https://help.eduready360.com/en/asset-management/how-are-products-added-to-asset-management
