Why are new activities not showing up for my students to complete?

There may be times when you come across a student who you think should be assigned an activity but it isn't assigned to them. This guide will explain what triggers activity assignments to happen and what you can do to try to diagnose why a student may not be assigned an activity.

1. What triggers student activity assignments?

A student's grade level changes. Any time a student's grade level changes, the system will update their activity assignments in case there are any activities with a starting grade level of the student's new grade level

A student is created. Of course, if a student is just created, we need to check to see if they have any activities that should be assigned to them

An activity is created or updated. When an activity is created or updated, we update the activity assignments for all students in the system with a grade level greater than or equal to the starting grade level of the activity.

The graduation pathway is set for the student.

2. Things to check if an activity is not assigned to a student and you think it should be

Ensure that the graduation pathway assigned to the activity matches the graduation pathway assigned to the student. If the activity doesn't require a specific pathway, this is not the issue

Ensure that the student's grade level is greater than or equal to the starting grade level specified in the settings of the activity.

3. Triggering the system to reevaluate a students activity assignments

In order to force the system to reevaluate a student's activity assignments, simply edit the student record and save it. Doing this will cause the system to trigger a background task that evaluates the activities assigned to the student.
